What is the difference between an F1 and an F2 visa?

A F1 Visa is a type of visa that is granted to students who are enrolled full-time in a university, high school, college, language training program, private elementary school, or other educational institution in the United States. The F2 Visa is for unmarried children under the age of 21 or the spouse of an F1 Visa holder who is accompanying them during their stay. The F2 Visa holder stays with the F1 Visa holder until both of their education programs are completed and they must return home.
