Green Card Student Benefits!
Having a Green Card and wanting to study in the United States is a big advantage because higher tuition fees are charged to out-of-state and foreign students by many universities, colleges and technical schools.
Because you would be considered an in-state resident, you would not have to pay the same tuition fees other international students pay.
If the tuition fees are still too much for you then, you can also apply for financial aid to help you with the costs!
Tips for a Marriage Based Green Card Interview!
Visa interviews can be very stressful so before attending we suggest you: are on time for your interview (better if you arrive 30 minutes early), wear appropriate clothing, prepare beforehand to answer all types of questions, answer the questions in a calm and organized manner, do not panic if you get separated from your spouse and of course bring all the right documentation.
When Do I Receive My Green Card After the Interview?
You will not receive your green card immediately if you are interviewed outside the U.S. and the consular officer approves your application. Until the official green card arrives, the officer will only stamp your passport to indicate approval of permanent residency.
A sealed immigration packet will be given to you, allowing you to travel to the United States, which should not be opened.
A customs officer will collect and check your sealed immigration packet once you arrive at a U.S. port of entry.
The officer may decide to grant or deny you entry after checking your packet.
You will be able to enter the U.S. as a permanent resident if you are granted entry at the port of entry, and your official green card will be mailed to you a few weeks after your arrival.
How to be qualified for a Green Card?
By being supported by a parent (including your spouse) or by your employer, you can apply for a green card (GC).
Via an EB-5 investment, through the Diversity Visa (DV) lottery or via asylum, you can also become a permanent resident.
How do green card holders become citizens?
By naturalization, a lawful permanent resident (green card holder) may become a U.S. citizen.
A permanent resident must be at least 18 years old in order to be eligible.
Even if married to a U.S. citizen, the green card holder must have been a permanent resident for at least five years, or three years in the United States.
What is the EB-4 Visa?
The EB-4 is a type of Green Card for special immigrants which includes Special Immigrant Juveniles, Religious Workers, Afghan and Iraqi Translators, Armed Forces Members and much more!
Who can Apply for Asylum?
If you are at a port of entry or in the United States, you may request asylum.
Regardless of your immigration status, and within one year of your arrival in the United States, you can apply for asylum.
Is it possible to remain a permanent resident in the US?
Unless you apply for and complete the naturalization process, lose your status or abandon it, then once you become a Green Card holder you hold the permanent resident status forever.
